How Memorial and Tribute Giving Works
A memorial or tribute gift is a meaningful way to honor a life, a milestone, or a moment that matters. These gifts help extend compassionate hospice, palliative, grief, and dementia care to others in our community while preserving the memory of someone special.
Memorial and tribute gifts may be made at any time and in many forms. Every gift is handled with care, respect, and confidentiality.
Memorial Giving // In lieu of flowers
Memorial giving allows family and friends to honor a loved one by directing gifts toward care for others facing serious illness or loss.
Many families choose to include memorial giving information in an obituary. Suggested wording may include:
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, or online at lifecare.org.
Each memorial gift contributes to a lasting tribute created in the individual’s name.
Tribute Giving // Honoring someone living or remembered
Tribute gifts may be made in honor of a loved one, a caregiver, a LifeCare team member, or a special occasion. When a tribute gift is made, the Foundation will notify the honoree or family on your behalf. Gift amounts remain confidential.
Tribute giving is a thoughtful way to recognize gratitude, celebrate a life, or mark a meaningful moment while supporting care for others.
LifeCare Tribute Tiles
A permanent remembrance
To honor and preserve the memory of someone you love, LifeCare has created Tribute Tiles installed at each of our hospice care centers. These engraved plaques provide a lasting place of reflection for families, visitors, and staff.
Tribute Tiles are available through a gift, or combination of gifts, totaling $1,000 or more.

Veterans Memorial Gardens
Honoring those who served
LifeCare’s Veterans Memorial Gardens in Wilmington and Bolivia offer a dedicated space to honor veterans with dignity and gratitude. As a Level 5 partner in the We Honor Veterans program, these memorials reflect our deep commitment to recognizing military service.
Tribute opportunities within the gardens include:
Star markers at the base of the eagle sculpture
Stepping stones along garden pathways
Memorial benches
Flags representing our country, state, and military branches
The centerpiece of each garden is an eagle sculpture commissioned by local artist Dumay Gorham.
Naming Opportunities
Create a legacy that endures
In addition to memorials and tributes, LifeCare offers select naming opportunities throughout our care centers and programs. These opportunities allow families to create a visible, lasting legacy tied to comfort, dignity, and compassionate care.
Examples may include:

Family rooms or reflection areas
Programmatic support recognition
